Reading Challenges Part One

So, in January I will let you all know my reading goals for 2018, but by making the list of goals I was thinking about reading challenges. I love reading challenges, I just suck with completing them. And you might think well, Nina, you never complete them, why  participate in them again? Well, dear readers, because I like a challenge!  And for once I would like to complete them. And I will.  We need some positivity here, don't we! Let's all keep out fingers crossed that I will succeed in 2018. So, which reading challenges am I participating in? Two of my own personal reading challenges and two of others. Let us start with the personal ones.

I call it; Personal Reading Challenge I - Adult Novels 2018. I'm a big fan of Ink and Paper Blog. He always reads these fantastic novels and after watching his youtube videos I always end up with writing down titles of books I want to read. But, I never get to them. My goal is to read at least 10 adult novels, which sounds doable, right? I made a list of more then 10 books. I always want to have a back-up plan, incase the bookstore or library doesn't have the book or I might just need more because I end up achieving the goal of reading 10!  Now, that my friends would be amazing.

The books:
Goodbye Vitamin by Rachel Khong
What We Lose by Zinzi Clemmons
The child finder by Rene Denfeld
The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
The book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henriquez
Exit West by Mohsin Hamid
Strange heart beating by Eli Goldstone
Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward
Since we fell by Dennis Lehane
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan (Series)
Do not become alarmed by Maile Meloy
Pretend we are lovely by Noley Reid
Shadow of the Lions by Christopher Swann

The second personal challenge is; Personal Reading Challenge I - Already Gone. In 2013 I made my own Personal Reading Challenge. I wanted to read books that were published in 2010 and 2011. In 2017 I still haven't completed my own challenge. The list is almost identical to the old one, but I read a couple of them and some of the books I have no desire in to reading them now I crossed off.

These are the books published in 2010 and 2011 that I really want to read:

Year 2010
Ghost and the Goth, The by Stacey Kade (S)
John Belushi is Dead by Kathy Charles

Year 2011
Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton (S)
Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel (S)
Luminous by Dawn Metcalf (S)
Magnolia League, The by Katie Crouch (S)
Ordinary Beauty by Laura Wiess
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel (S)
S means first book in a series.

Part two will be up very soon! Have you read any of the books that I want to read?

@bermudaonion: Thank you!

Kindlemom  – (20 december 2017 om 08:50)

I feel that way about challenges sometimes, in fact when I was doing a lot of them, I kind of got stressed out by them so I don't usually do them now but I still think they look super fun. Good luck with all of your reading goals. :D

Nina  – (20 december 2017 om 08:57)

@Kindlemom: Thank you! These are my personal challenges and then I'm participating in two more! So four in total. This time I think I can complete them, because I really want to read those books. :) I do hope I won't get stressed and won't finish them. Fingers crossed.

I love reading challenges too, but I NEVER complete them. I still sign up for them, though, because you know, hope springs eternal :) Good luck with yours!

Nina  – (20 december 2017 om 09:47)

@Susan: Haha, same here! love that! Thank you & good luck to you too!

Sophia Rose  – (20 december 2017 om 09:47)

Those are great reading goals and I love that you're sticking with your challenges. Cheering you on, Nina!

Nina  – (20 december 2017 om 09:53)

@Sophia Rose: Thank you, I hope I can succeed! :) I do have more reading goals, but that will be on the blog in January!

Lauren  – (20 december 2017 om 19:02)

I'm the same way with challenges - I love them but I'm *so* bad at following through! Hopefully 2018 will be the the year of successful challenges for us both! :) Your first one sounds good. I've read a lot more adult books this year then I ever have before, and I'm glad I did. I still love YA, but adult books can be super special/good too. Good luck!

Shooting Stars Mag  – (20 december 2017 om 20:37)

John Belushi is Dead is a FAVORITE of mine, and I never see it anywhere so I highly recommend that one. The only other book I've read is The Child Finder, but I did like that one. I love adult fiction.

I'm awful at reading challenges as well. I start of strong, but then usually dwindle off around May or June and never finish them. Oops? This is our year! We can do it! lol

Shell  – (21 december 2017 om 16:06)

Angelfire is an awesome book! I love it!

As for reading more adult novels, yep. I need to do that too.

Nina  – (23 december 2017 om 07:42)

@Anna Knight: Love that! Yes, 2018 is going to be our year! I truly believe that.

@Shooting Stars Mag: Great to hear that it is your favourite! I'm looking forward reading it.

@Shell: Yay!Another book that I'm looking forward to. :)

Carole Wooten  – (23 december 2017 om 12:12)

Good luck with these challenges! I don't really do too many challenges. I will do the Blogger Shame to try to work on my backlog of review books and I have a goodreads goal. I like the idea of a challenge but I know it would cause me stress. I am sure you will do well with these!

Nina  – (24 december 2017 om 04:38)

@Carole: Thank you! That's another great challenge to participate in. :)

Suzanne at The Bookish Libra  – (26 december 2017 om 06:47)

I'm still trying to decide how many challenges I want to participate in. These sound good though. Good luck!

Nina  – (31 december 2017 om 04:30)

@Suzanne: There are a lot out there. I wanted to join more, but I just can't. I might join Non-fiction November. I really love non-fiction.
